The federal Plain Writing Act of 2010 calls for writing that is "clear, concise, and well-organized….Avoids jargon, redundancy, ambiguity, and obscurity…Improve[s] public understanding of government communications." The Act requires government agencies to "use plain writing in every paper or electronic letter, publication, form, notice, or instruction."
